Ivan Weiss Danish Faience Glazed Baca Bowl by Royal Copenhagen
Square Royal Copenhagen faience bowl in brown and orange colours.
Designed by Ivan Weiss.
The bowl is part of the Siena series, which is a faience series by Royal Copenhagen, designed by the artists Ellen Malmer and Ivan Weiss. The pieces in the series are based on the same common form and in the same color scale, while the artists has created separated decorations for the beautiful vases and dishes.
Ivan Weiss became an apprentice to Nils Thorsson, who was in charge of the Royal Copenhagen stoneware and faience department. He gained deep insight into ceramics and in the years 1970-72 he studied ceramics in Hagi in Japan.
He was subsequently re-employed at Royal Copenhagen and continued his collaboration with Nils Thorsson in his department. Ivan Weiss has designed parts of the well-known stoneware and faience from the 60s and 70s, which can be found in many Danish homes.
Ivan Weiss still works freelance for Royal Copenhagen and is a guest lecturer at the Danish Design School. Throughout his more than 42 year career at Royal Copenhagen he has made everything from small porcelain boxes to man-high vases in stoneware
